Joining the club

Cambridge Crossways is a competitive club, and welcomes high standard players looking for a high standard of badminton. We are particularly looking for players with experience of university, local league or county badminton.

All prospective members are asked to come along to clubnight as a visitor, typically for 3 weeks. During this time, the committee – assisted by other club members – will assess their playing standard, to determine whether they are of a level suitable for the club.

This isn’t determined merely by whether they win their matches, and we do take into account factors like being rusty after a break away from playing badminton.

Other factors are also taken into account: for example, we prioritize visitors who are in principle prepared to play for the club in the local leagues.

This process also applies to past members who are returning to club after a break.

For more information about the club, including information about fees, please check out the FAQ. We also have a lively social scene, with regular social events and trips to the pub after clubnights.

In recent years demand for places has outstripped the available spaces, and sadly we do have to turn a number of players away each season. If this happens to you, we can suggest other clubs for you to approach.

If you are accepted as a member and you decide to join, then your visitors fees are deducted from the annual membership fee.

When the club is full, we'll indicate this on the homepage. If you’d like to be put onto the waiting list, then please contact the membership secretary whose details are on the Contacts page.
